(Photo shared by Anna Evans of Cwmfelin Mynach - Her grandfather bought the mill from the Pictons.)

The village Cwmfelin Mynach
when Monks Mill (Felin Mynach in Welsh) still existed

The large building in the center of the photo is the mill.

Jacob and Mary Picton operated the mill.
Stephen Picton lived there with his parents and siblings.
After Jacob died, Mary and her sons operated the mill.
Son Stephen left to become a farmer, and son Owen left to become a miller elsewhere.
Son John continued as the as the miller and remained there after his mother Mary died.

The first photos were taken on our trip to Wales in 1993 when we discovered the village of Cwmfelin Mynach. Brian Picton Swann sent me the pictures from his visits to the farms where most of Stephen and Eliza Picton's children were born in Wales. Many thanks for his permission to share them. The Stephen Picton Family photo, the individual photos of John Rees Picton and Eliza Jane (Landis) Picton, the John Rees Picton Family photo, and the snapshot of John and Eliza Picton in front of their house were all in the Photo Book of Martin Ancestors made by Frances (Picton) Martin and Donald Martin. The early picture of Stephen Picton and the first Picton house were scanned from Owen Picton's book. I tried to find the originals, but was unable to do so. The pictures of the John and Eliza Picton house, the shapshots of the Picton children as they grew up and a snap shot including my mother and me, two aunts, and three cousins at the Picton Reunion were scans of copies we made of photos in the collection of Frances (Picton) Martin and Donald Martin.
